Vubiq Networks Selects MaxLinear for Advanced 10 Gbps V-Band Millimeter Wave Radio Link

IRVINE, CA, February 24, 2017 – Vubiq Networks, Inc., the leading innovator in millimeter wave wireless broadband solutions, today announced that it has selected MaxLinear’s MxL85100 baseband system-on-a-chip (SoC) for the company’s HaulPass V10g™ radio link. MaxLinear Inc. is a leading provider of radio frequency and mixed-signal integrated circuits for the connected home and wired and wireless infrastructure markets.

The HaulPass V10g is an advanced 10 Gbps V-Band millimeter wave radio link that delivers high-speed, low-latency, full-duplex wireless data connectivity at distances up to 1.8 kilometers. The HaulPass V10g provides broadband Ethernet connectivity via a fully integrated Ethernet switch, as well as 10 Gbps direct fiber-to-radio connectivity for maximum throughput and minimum latency.

The MaxLinear MxL85100 is a baseband SoC for broadband wireless transmission systems. The SoC supports the highest bit rate in the millimeter wave point-to-point industry. It offers a flexible combination of high modulation rates, BPSK to 256QAM, and wide channel bandwidths from 20MHz to 2GHz, enabling throughputs up to 10Gbps link capacity.

Vubiq Networks Expands Millimeter Wave Innovation with New Wireless Backplane Patent

System and Method for Wireless Communication in a Backplane Fabric Architecture

IRVINE, CA, December 19, 2016 – Vubiq Networks, Inc., the leading innovator in millimeter wave wireless broadband solutions, today announced that the company has been issued a new technology patent by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The new patent, number 9,537,794, is entitled System and Method for Wireless Communication in a Backplane Fabric Architecture.

“As a network communications technology innovator, Vubiq Networks now possesses a strong portfolio of 14 patents in millimeter wave components and system-level network communications,” said Mike Pettus, CTO and founder of Vubiq Networks. “Specifically, this new patent is the fourth in a series of technology patents that covers our wireless backplane fabric, including chip-to-chip, board-to-board, and most importantly, rack-to-rack connectivity in a wireless data center environment.”

The newly awarded patent broadens Vubiq Networks’ intellectual property (IP) protection in future data center and cloud computing architectures that are evolving to broadband wireless interconnections among server racks, thereby eliminating requirements for copper and fiber cabling. Such architectures will eliminate the need for aggregation and core switches.

The patent is a Continuation in Part (CIP) based on a series of previous Vubiq Networks patents dating back to the original filing date in June of 2007. It provides broader coverage of wireless nodes in a data center or cloud computing environment, creating a massively mesh network architecture yielding higher capacity, lower cost, lower latency, and much higher redundancy as compared with fixed cabling and fixed switch architectures.

Vubiq Networks to Develop E-Band Broadband Wireless Connectivity Solution

V-Band Innovator Expands Strategy to Encompass E-Band Spectrum

FCC Adopts New Rules for Unlicensed V-Band Extending the Coverage to 57-71 GHz

Expanded Spectrum Greatly Increases Market Potential for Vubiq Networks

IRVINE, CA, July 18, 2016 – Vubiq Networks, Inc., the leading innovator in V-Band wireless broadband solutions, today announced that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) issued a Report and Order on July 14, 2016 officially adopting new rules for wireless broadband operations at frequencies above 24 GHz. Of particular interest for the millimeter wave backhaul market are the new rules affecting the 60 GHz spectrum, also known as V-Band. Previously, the 60 GHz band in the U.S. was allocated for unlicensed operation covering from 57 to 64 GHz, a total of 7 GHz of bandwidth. With the adoption of the new rules, the band has been expanded to cover 57 to 71 GHz, a total of 14 GHz of contiguous unlicensed spectrum.

“The importance of this ruling cannot be overstated,” said Mike Pettus, Founder and CTO of Vubiq Networks. “The FCC has shown overwhelming support for unlicensed millimeter wave operation. This action validates our company’s focus on V-Band, which has now been greatly expanded.”

The new portion of the band that has been added, from 64 to 71 GHz, has another bonus feature: no more oxygen absorption. “This means that the distance that can be achieved by a link operating in the upper portion of the new band will be on par with links using the licensed E-Band spectrum in the 70/80 GHz range, but with less rain fade due to the lower operating frequencies,” explained Mr. Pettus.

The history of making 60 GHz a reality started in early 1996 when Mr. Pettus joined the newly formed industry advisory committee to the FCC called the Millimeter Wave Communications Working Group, the result of which finally became the 60 GHz unlicensed rules under Part 15 in 1998. It has been this consistent drive and focus in understanding the innovative value of unlicensed operation, combined with the natural high capacity of millimeter wave spectrum that has shaped Vubiq Networks’ strategy.

“I knew that ultimately bandwidth was the key that would motivate our future in wireless performance, and bandwidth is the real value of the millimeter wave frequencies,” said Mr. Pettus, “We were especially keen to participate in this FCC proceeding, and are delighted with the positive response from the commission”.

“We will now be able to build millimeter wave systems performing with the range of E-Band but with the operational ease of unlicensed V-Band”, said John Dilworth, CEO of Vubiq Networks. “The FCC has clearly shown the vision that unlicensed millimeter wave has a big future for wireless broadband”.

In an accompanying statement to the Report and Order from FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler, he states that, “On my first day as Chairman, I described the FCC as the nation’s ‘Optimism Agency.’ Today’s Spectrum Frontiers Order is exactly what I had in mind when I made that statement.”

Vubiq Networks Appoints John Dilworth as Chief Executive Officer

Available for immediate download, version 2.01.17 of the HaulPass V60s firmware provides a number of new features and capabilities, including:

  • Support for Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), allowing customers to tightly integrate the wireless infrastructure into their custom monitoring software
  • A proprietary Radio Frequency Management Information Base (RF MIB) that enables enhanced management capabilities for the HaulPass V60s

Vubiq Networks Announces HaulPass V60 Firmware Upgrade

New capabilities include a watchdog feature, preconfigured RFC 2544 performance test, and additional performance and security enhancements

IRVINE, CA, September 21, 2015 – Vubiq Networks, Inc., an innovator in 60 GHz wireless broadband solutions, today announced new firmware features for the company’s HaulPass V60 broadband wireless connectivity solution. The HaulPass V60 is an advanced 60 GHz millimeter wave broadband wireless solution that delivers low-latency, full-duplex Gigabit Ethernet transport speeds in a small, ruggedized, easy-to-install enclosure.

Available for immediate download, version 1.3.74 of the HaulPass V60 firmware provides a wide array of new features and improvements, including:

  • A new watchdog feature that minimizes truck rolls in the event of power failures or human errors. The system automatically checks all subsystems, and in the event of a failure, will reset the subsystem without impacting traffic. If a subsystem cannot recover via reset, the system will automatically reboot.
  • A preconfigured RFC 2544 performance test that speeds link qualification without the need for expensive networking test equipment.
  • Increased performance in Digital Signal Strength Indicator (DSSI) update rate.
  • Enhanced robustness and protection in the case of unexpected power noise or user upgrade mistakes.
  • Additional system logging to support upgrade activities, as well as correlating events between the built-in Ethernet switch and the RF subsystem.
  • Remote reboot functionality added to the Web GUI.
  • Performance and security enhancements to the V60’s remote software tool.
