Internet of Things

The Internet of Things (IoT) has emerged as one of the most important technologies in today’s interconnected world. With over 7 billion connected IoT devices across the globe today, industry experts predict the number of interconnected devices to grow to 10 billion by 2020 and 22 billion by 2025.

Thanks to the advent of very low cost computer chips and the ubiquity of wireless networks, it is now possible to turn just about anything into a part of the world of IoT. Adding sensors to devices provides them with a level of digital intelligence, enabling them to communicate real-time data without human intervention. IoT can connect everything from smartphones, household appliances, wearable devices, industrial tools – virtually everything from something as small as a pill to something as large as the jet engine of and airplane – into a part of the IoT.

IoT and RFID

Adding radio frequency identification (RFID) tags to products and equipment – even hospital patients – was one of the first practical IoT applications. Since then, the cost of adding sensors and an internet connection to objects has continued to fall. Experts predict that the cost of this functionality could fall to near pennies, making it possible to connect virtually everything to the internet.

Following this dynamic global trend – and with our patented solutions for higher granularity and density of RFID technologies, Vubiq Networks plans to exploit IoT applications that require higher frequency radar solutions, Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW), and Synthetic Aperture Radar functionality. Automotive, healthcare, and manufacturing/distribution logistics are areas where our patented approach to radar can benefit IoT. Continuing our focus on millimeter wave and soon frequencies in the Terahertz spectrum, Vubiq Networks will continue to innovate and bring these higher frequency, mission-critical applications to market.

The Advantages of our RFID technology for IoT

Vubiq Networks’ technology patents covers our unique data encoding technology that exploits the natural physics of antennas at a tremendously small scale. The result is a chipless RFID data tag that approaches the cost of printing a bar code, but with the ability to contain hundreds of data bits in the size of a postage stamp. Our chipless RFID technology breaks through today’s biggest barrier to using RFID tags for IoT applications: the cost of the RFID tag. Our innovative approach reduces tag costs to a few cents per tag. With the use of millimeter wave as the frequency spectrum, RFID tags reader performance increases and wireless disruption is minimized. Utilizing hyperimaging as opposed to traditional RFID methods greatly expands the use cases by providing the ability to read multiple tags simultaneously, as well as determining their three-dimensional location.
