IRVINE, CA, September 18, 2017 – Vubiq Networks, Inc., the innovation leader in high-speed millimeter wave wireless broadband technology, products and solutions, today announced that the City of Mission Viejo, California has deployed the company’s HaulPass V60s™ V-Band wireless data connectivity radio to deliver low-latency, full-duplex Gigabit Ethernet communications between the city’s central data center and the remotely located Potocki Conference Center.
The Thomas R. Potocki Conference Center was originally built as a training center for the U.S. soccer team during the 1994 World Cup. Located in the middle of Oso Viejo Community Park with adjacent soccer fields, the building was converted to a community center after the World Cup. Today it serves the city as a youth activity and conference center.
“Throughout the years, the one thing missing at the facility was broadband Internet access,” said Vubiq Networks CEO John Dilworth. “This was problematic for youth counselors from Outta Bounds Events who leased the facility. They conducted after-school programs and computer classes that required Internet access. They even used their mobile phones as hot spots to provide Internet access for the kids.”
That all changed when the city deployed the HaulPass V60s wireless Gigabit Ethernet link from Vubiq Networks. The radio link connected the conference center to the central data center at Mission Viejo City Hall, located about 600 meters away.
Previously, the city had investigated possible alternatives to provide broadband Internet access to the center. However, the remote location within the Oso Viejo Community Park and surrounding soccer fields would require costly, disruptive trenching and installation of high-speed fiber optic cable.
“Vubiq Networks provided us with the ideal, cost-effective, license-free wireless solution,” said Norman Nakawaki, IT Manager at the City of Mission Viejo. “City Hall and the Potocki Conference Center are within rooftop line-of-site proximity, so we were able to easily deploy the HaulPass V60s wireless links on the rooftops of each building. Installation and link alignment was very straightforward. The Potocki Center now has connectivity to the city’s network and applications.”
When deploying wireless broadband technology, however, it is not enough merely to bridge the two locations, noted Mr. Nakawaki. It is equally essential to make such wireless network extensions as integrated into the central network as possible. That’s why traffic management switching and quality of service are an integral part of the HaulPass V60s solution – without incurring additional costs.
